Style and Influences of Genesis

Genesis’s when it comes to costumes, varied greatly throughout the course of their career. During the days when their music was very progressive, sometimes they would change costumes for each song. This is shown best during the 23 minute long song ‘Suppers Ready’ where Peter Gabriel wears a vast array of costumes, changing for almost every part of the song.
When their music changed to being radio-friendly pop, they began to wear things such as suits, and other generic costumes. However, something about their style never changed the light shows. They incorporated difficult light arrangements to fit to their music and the mood of the show, something no other band had done until this time.

Genesis has had many different influences throughout their tenure as a band.
Some of the styles that influenced them were genres like classical and jazz, and bands such as King Crimson and Nina Simone.
