Target Audience of Genesis

The target audience of Genesis has changed throughout the years with the changes in their musical style. When they first started out as a band, their music was very progressive and was aimed at teenagers who wanted to get away from the sound of the hippie era. This was the way progressive rock was born. The band did not have a target audience in the early days in a traditional sense. They did not plan to have mainstream success. They just focused on the music, and whoever listened, they were happy with. As the band progressed, so did their target audience. In the 80’s when Genesis became radio friendly, the band gained a more mainstream, mature audience, with listeners varying in age.

In today’s time, Genesis is not listened to by the younger generation. The people who listen to the band now are the ones who listened to them in their younger days.
